32nd Kano State Executive Council Meeting
The Kano State Executive Council held its sitting for thirty-two times on 25th January, 2012 (2nd Rabi’ul Awwal 1433 AH) and approved the following submission
This approval is aimed at clearing the roads of broken down vehicles in order to ease traffic flow on the metropolitan roads.
It can be recalled that the Council, during its previous sittings, had approved a contract for landscaping/interlocking of seven hospitals in the first phase of the hospital beautification project.
Also approved to the Ministry of Health is the sum of One Hundred and Nineteen Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Five Thousand Naira (N119,855,000.00) for the procurement of 10 Emergency Response Ambulances to serve at seven major highways in the state. Apart from the provision of emergency medical assistance to accident victims, the Emergency Response Ambulances will also be used in the newly-introduced Mobile Health Services programme, which will cover the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
Council noted that the decision was informed by the present administration’s determination to make access to healthcare services faster, easier and efficient in the remote areas of the state.
This, therefore, necessitated the approval of the proposed Kano State Traffic Management Authority (KASTMA) Bill 2011 by the Council, for submission to the State House of Assembly.
Council believed that the enactment of the law will give the agency the power to arrest and prosecute violators of traffic laws. The agency will also have the power to impound, tow away broken down and violators’ vehicles from the roads.
While deliberating on the proposed law, the Council established an EXCO Committee comprising the Honorable Commissioners of Works, Housing and Transport, Science and Technology and Special Duties to study and advise the Council on the bill.
While approving the outlined interim report presented by the committee, Council directed the committee to expedite action in order to submit its report on time.
In a related development, an updated report on the activities of the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Community Schools and Voluntary Services has been submitted. The Council noted the report and commended the sensitization programmes initiated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant.
The Council further urged the public to be alert and cooperate with the security agencies in making the state safer and peaceful.
Signed:
Umar Faruk Jibril (Ph.D)
